Sophie Fletcher of Zosia Ceramics creates organically-formed stoneware pieces from a garden studio in Cambridge. Using oxides to decorate her work with gestural and painterly motifs, she is drawn to the joyful expression of folk art, and the rich palette found in medieval handcraft.

Pottering in the Garden
Based in East Anglia, Sophie Fletcher of Zosia Ceramics creates playful forms from warm-toned stoneware clay, decorated with free-form and expressive motifs. The potter finds inspiration in medieval ceramics and Polish folk objects, combining traditional silhouettes with loose, hand-painted illustrations.
The mugs, plates, and bowls are shaped on a kick wheel, though Sophie occasionally applies hand building techniques. From design to final kiln fire, each piece is crafted in her garden shed studio. Due to the handmade process, no two structures are exactly alike.
