In our series Community Threads, we bring together the creative individuals who make up our TOAST shop teams and explore the ways in which they thoughtfully style pieces from our new collections.

This instalment focuses on our London Shoreditch shop, which has recently relocated to Charlotte Road. Neighbouring creative studios, showrooms and independent businesses, the characterful space offers the latest TOAST collections.

Sophie

Working at TOAST Shoreditch, Sophie makes the most of the shop’s cultural surroundings. Her favourite discovery is the Museum of the Home, just a short stroll away. “It's free to enter and looks at homes throughout London's history – how people lived, the items they had in their homes. There's also a beautiful, curated garden, which is lovely to sit out in with a packed lunch.”

Sophie is 5’6” and wears a UK size 10. Here, she styles the Wide Leg Cotton Poplin Jumpsuit and Emma Carlow Tree of Life Print Cotton Bandana. “The jumpsuit looks amazing, but it's also so comfortable. By changing the accessories, you could easily take it from day to night.”

Lauren

For Lauren, the ideal Sunday in east London starts with a visit to Hackney City Farm, before browsing the flower market on Columbia Road and playing card games in a local pub. “The farm is a community charity which runs educational projects, exhibitions, and craft courses – protecting accessible green spaces like this in Central London is very close to my heart.”

Lauren is 5’4” and wears a UK size 10/12. She was drawn to the “handwoven cotton and beautiful attention to detail” of the Jamdani Hand Woven Cotton Top and Cotton Linen Poplin Box Pleat Skirt.

Jess

Jess has been with TOAST since 2013, originally working at our King's Road pop-up before joining as a Repair Specialist in 2020. She has been part of the Shoreditch team for five years. This month, she is reading Flights by Olga Tokarczuk and listening to her favourite summer album, Tuff Times Never Last by Kokoroko.

Jess is 5’3” and wears a UK size 10 in the Emma Carlow Cut Out Print Sleeveless Top and Cotton Skirt. “I love the bold cut-out prints, the deep blues and rusts, and the flowy silhouettes.”

Maya

Maya has worked with us for over two years, and enjoys visiting art exhibitions in the area – particularly at Raven Row and Whitechapel Gallery. “I also like to take a lunchtime stroll to Arnold Circus nearby. It’s a lovely spot to sit with a book or my knitting project.”

Maya is 5’3” and wears a UK size 12/14. She is photographed in the Alda Maypole Stripe Cotton Easy Tee and Garment Dyed Linen Skirt. “They’re comfortable and practical, and the materials feel soft against my skin. I love the fullness of the skirt.”

Matthew

Matthew works part-time at TOAST Shoreditch, alongside teaching drawing and painting to children. He is thrilled that the new Charlotte Road shop sits just across from The Royal Drawing School. “It's a very special place to me, offering classes, lectures and a drop-in print room.”

Usually juggling two or three books, Matthew has recently finished Henry Henry by Allen Brandon: “A reimagining of Shakespeare’s Henry V play, with a sprinkle of Derek Jarman.”

Matthew is 5’9” and wears a UK size M in the Theo Cotton Short Sleeve Tee and a 32” waist in the Rory Straight Leg Trousers. “The casual tee pairs well with the simplicity of the Rory trousers. All of these pieces will transition well into the next season.”
