In our series Community Threads, we bring together the creative individuals who make up our TOAST shop teams and explore the ways in which they thoughtfully style pieces from our new collections.

For this instalment, we visit our Marlow shop, located in the heart of the characterful market town. Between browsing our latest collections – and meeting our team in person – wander through the historic Buckinghamshire streets and enjoy a bite to eat along the scenic riverside.

Claire

Claire has been a TOAST team member for close to four years. Her interests include hosting mending circles with friends, volunteering in the local community, and reading. “At the moment, I’m enjoying Neneh Cherry’s autobiography. It’s taking me right back to the nineties – happy memories!”

Claire is a UK size 12 and wears the Ollie Binding Check Cotton Seersucker Shirt and Skirt. “I’ve paired the set with my Solovair loafers from last season.”

Bee

Bee has also been working at our TOAST Marlow shop for almost four years. In her free time, she enjoys sewing and experimenting with natural dyeing. A budding baker, Bee favours pastry galettes filled with plums, peaches and figs. “I really enjoy the process of layering all the delicious elements into the base and making it look beautiful.”

Bee is a UK size 10/12 and wears the Cotton Wool Herringbone Jacket and Trousers. “I love the masculine look of the whole outfit. The jacket is a great fit, and I like wearing the trousers oversized.”

Sandi

Sandi has been welcoming visitors to our Marlow location since its opening in 2021. “I love being at home with my family and dog, Milo, or going for runs with my friends.” When it comes to her wardrobe, she is drawn to simple and comfortable pieces that match her slow-paced lifestyle.

Sandi is a UK size 6/8 and wears the Seersucker Cotton Shirt and Cotton Wool Herringbone Pleat Front Trousers. “At 5'1", I feel great in these beautiful trousers. They work really well for my height.”

Louisa

Louisa, who joined TOAST Marlow a year and a half ago, spends her time between shifts walking in her local woods or reading with her cat by her side. “My current read is Steppenwolf by Hermann Hesse. It’s deep and thought-provoking, making me reflect for hours after reading just a few pages.”

Louisa is a UK size 8 and wears the Botanical Shadow Print Dress. “It’s a beautiful shape and so easy to wear.”

I’ve been buying from Toast for years and love the clothes. It is a joy going in to the Marlow shop and I can’t praise their people highly enough. Apart from being friendly, helpful and honest (a highly valued quality) they salvaged a much loved pale green linen dress for me. The dress had split on both sides of the top and Bee knew it could be repaired – the dress disappeared for a few weeks and was returned to me, no charge, all patched and fixed with lovely stitching. I am so thrilled to have my favourite dress back even (dare I say?) enhanced. Toast alone makes it worth a trip to Marlow.

The team at Marlow are all lovely, so friendly and welcoming. Nothing is too much trouble. They know their stock so well and are really helpful at suggesting items which work well together. I’m often inspired by something they have chosen to wear themselves. A trip into the store is always accompanied by a lovely chat and I leave feeling happy even if I haven’t bought anything! J

Whenever I travel to the southeast, I make a beeline for the Toast shop in Marlow. Me and my two labradors are always made to feel welcome and the ladies are so friendly. I live in North Devon, far from a Toast shop, so it really is a special treat to come visit you guys and get to see the latest clothes. Lovely to see you all dressed in your favourite outfits and hear of your interests.

Marlow is lovely, and I go there to visit the Toast shop . Always a pleasure, the staff are so friendly and helpful. I find seeing the clothes in real life makes me wish I were richer ! The quality and textures are what is lacking via the photos, so much nicer to see them for real .

Love the ladies in the Marlow shop, so helpful and friendly, nothing is too much trouble. I am so happy that there is a local (to me) Toast store and usually end up leaving with something. I enjoyed hearing their stories and seeing the styling.

Absolutely love popping into the Marlow store. The ladies are always welcoming and very good with suggesting outfits. Really well-styled in the article, might have to visit the store to take a look at a few more items 🙂

I live nowhere near Marlowe, but I would now pop in to Toast if I was nearby after meeting its lovely staff. As another contributor has said, it’s really interesting to see the clothes on someone else, prompting me to think, that might look ok on me too. I changed my mind about the Botanical Shadow print dress after seeing it on Louisa in this Threads article. It really suits her. I’ll definitely seek it out in my nearest shop.

It’s such a lovely idea ‘ Community Threads’! Staff who spend so much time with the Toast stock and witness its changes through season after season are the perfect voices to which we should give an ear. Toast staff are invariably lovely generous people. As they come in all shapes and sizes it’s a great way to draw inspiration for customers to discern what would/ wouldn’t suit the, based on likeness to colouring, body shape, size, type of staff members.

I love visiting the Marlow shop. Always a warm welcome and a chat as well as lots of help with finding something I can’t live without! I generally leave with a smile on my face and a Toast carrier bag in my hand.

What gorgeous ladies and beautiful outfits. So good to see real people in their lovely clothing choices and interesting to hear their stories. It makes you look at the clothes differently and think – hmm maybe I could wear that too! Can we keep having staff seasonal picks?
