Styling Conversations

For our most recent Styling Conversations, we share key pieces from our Spring collection, Elemental Compositions. Easy shapes with a relaxed fluidity and sense of volume are rendered in rich colour blocks of saturated spring green and nasturtium on a base of indigo, cocoa and chestnut, mingling with sun-bleached botanical shades.

Presenting their favourite pieces, our Head of Design, Laura Shippey and Nikki Sher, Head of Menswear and Buying, discuss how best to wear each look. Demonstrating a considered approach to colour and texture and using a range of garments from the collection, the outfits presented are versatile, working to a range of proportions and silhouettes.

Styling Conversations

From carefree dresses with sailor collars and shirts embroidered with characterful motifs to staple denim and practical accessories, Laura and Nikki provide guidance and tips, giving you the confidence to invent unique, comfortable and creative combinations for everyday wear.

Join them as they talk through each outfit, alongside Cat Yarwood, our Online Stylist and Visual Merchandiser, Katrin Wedepohl from our London, Islington shop, and Jael Monteiro from our London, Notting Hill shop.

Laura wears our Fauna Embroidered PJ Shirt and Ecru Denim Patch Pocket Trousers, while Nikki wears our Square Collar Poplin Dress in Slate, also available in Montella. They both wear sandals by Fracap, which are crafted in a small town in Puglia by a family-run business that has passed traditional skills down through generations.

I love, love, love your colours and style(mostly!) of your clothes but please ,please could you drop the volume! Most of us are 5’ 4" and like Nicki and I’m tired and disappointed and having to return so much. A little less material and i would purchase so much more…

How nice to know there are others out there in the older age group. I’m 73 and 5’4". I’m a very long term lover of Toast clothing, but my changing body shape makes some styles unsuitable for me. I’m a size 10 but some parts need to be disguised now. It would be good to have trousers in at least 2 lengths. Older models can look great, so please use them more often. Styling Conversations are a great way to see the clothing worn as I rely on online purchases – I live in an area without Toast shops.

I very much agree with the comments about sizing. I love Toast clothing but I’m 5 ft 3 in and size 8 and so much of it is just too voluminous on me. I have some tops which I love dearly (though occasionally I’ve taken them in a little at the sides – sorry Toast!) but the dresses and skirts just look ridiculous on me, great tentlike things. I’d love to buy more Toast clothing if you could just reduce the volume on at least some items.

Also agree with previous comments about sizing. It’s time that Toast started listening to its many loyal customers who are petite and find it hard to find anything within the collections to fit (other than the occasional top!) Jael your petite model recently advised me in store that she had raised the matter with the designers at Toast without success . Hoping that this could still change in future as I would probably buy loads….!

I am 5 feet 8 and size 8 but find Toast clothing swamps me. Also the ubiquitous cropped trousers just look daft on me. I still maintain a loyalty to Toast, but, based on what has been on offer of late, I can only assume that I no longer fit their customer profile. On the up side, great to see women of colour modelling the collection. And I did spot one ‘older’ woman in a couple of shots. As an ‘older’ women, I’d like more classic cut garments, particularly trousers, in natural fabrics – Katharine Hepburn style?? And dresses/skirts that end lower thigh (which I would definately wear without ankle socks!).

Totally agree with the previous comment. I am aged 65 and have also been purchasing Toast clothing for many years. I have a small frame and five feet tall and whilst i look forward to seeing how to put the Toast clothing together each season ( as i have to depend most of the time purchasing online as no Toast stores in my area ) it would be wonderful to see a mix of ages and size of models as from reading many reviews on returned items of clothing there are many loyal smaller built customers out there who also like me would welcome seeing Toast clothing which we could also purchase and wear.

Hi It’s really great to see how to style your clothes and get advice – but we aren’t all 5’8" and size 6-8, sadly..? Please can you show models of different ages and sizes? I’ve been buying your clothes since you began and I’m now 65 and not slim! Thanks Viv
