This one-of-a-kind cardigan has been created by London-based fashion designer and artist Bethany Williams for TOAST Renewed, using items from past TOAST collections that have been either damaged or returned to our warehouse. It features a patchworked knit, open elbows and an asymmetric, layered hem.

“I wanted the shape to feel fitted but also layered, and I was particularly interested in rolled hems and the way the layers sit against each other,” says Bethany. “The layers represent the complexity of legacy and the things we leave behind. The artwork is an original painting I created of a still night, where the water mirrors the reflection of traditional Manx fishing boats that my family used to work on, with cows in the field beyond. I worked with Alice Morell Evans, who interpreted the artwork into patchwork knit, using knit from existing garments and samples from previous collections. The pieces are joined together through crochet, creating a garment that feels like it has been built from fragments of different histories.”

Wool, cotton, alpaca and linen. Crochet patchwork. Crew neck. Open elbows. Ribbed cuffs. Layered hem. Front buttons.

This style is part of TOAST Renewed By, our limited-edition collaboration series, which sees garments transformed by guest artists through traditional textile handcrafts, honouring both their past and their potential future.

Mix of fibres: wool, cotton, alpaca, linen. Hand wash.
Made in the United Kingdom.
As this piece has been repaired, extra care should be taken when cleaning. It is also best to avoid jewellery that may catch or snag.

“The shape feels fitted but layered, with a focus on rolled hems and how the elements sit together. The artwork is my original painting, interpreted by Alice Morell Evans into patchwork knit using existing garments and samples. Joined through crochet, the pieces create a garment built from fragments of different histories.”
