Overdyed Hand Embroidered Shirt

£205.00
Graphite Multi
Size: XS

Our shirt is made from remnant fabrics repurposed from past TOAST collections. The cotton has then been overdyed, leaving the impression of the woven check pattern visible.  Vibrant squares inspired twentieth-century cafe floor tiles are hand-embroidered onto the breast pocket and near the side seam by artisans in India. The collar is finished with contrast cross stitching, and stitching traces the yoke, shoulder and side seams. Part of our Menswear collection.

Craft shirt. Over-dyed. Check. Embroidered checkerboard. Cross stitching. Trace stitches. Artisanal craft.

The Art of Block Printing

Block printing is a method of patterning textiles which involves engraving a design onto a wooden block, coating it with ink or dye, and pressing it onto a piece of fabric.

The earliest uses of this technique can be traced back to China during the Han Dynasty. In the fourth and fifth centuries, block printing flourished in India and is still valued as a heritage craft. Many of the block-printed patterns in our collections are created by artisans in Jaipur.

Cotton Care Guide

Cotton is a comfortable, breathable, and easy-care fibre that holds dye well, making it an ideal canvas for vibrant colours and prints. Sourced from the cotton plant's seed pods, its natural and biodegradable properties make it gentler on the environment than other materials. Cotton can be transformed into a range of durable fabrics, including denim, poplin, and twill.

  • Machine wash at 30°C with similar colours.
  • Wash only when necessary to preserve shape, colour, and quality.
  • Reshape while damp by holding the seams and gently shaking the fabric out.
  • Dry flat or hang to reduce creasing.
  • If needed, iron while damp or use steam.
  • Store away from direct sunlight to prevent fading.
