Ambrose Vevers

Ambrose Vevers’ wood workshop is tucked away on an apple orchard in Ashburton, Devon. His practical yet contemporary pieces for the kitchen employ hand carpentry skills, and his stools and chairs are constructed using traditional furniture making techniques such as steam bending and spokeshaving.

Description

Hand shaped, scorched English ash or oak, with a leather loop at one side for hanging and storing. Made by hand in Devon by woodworker Ambrose Vevers using traditional carpentry skills, and scorched using the Japanese Shou Sugi Ban technique. Predominantly using ash, cherry, oak and walnut, Ambrose works into each of his pieces patiently by hand. He sources his timber locally from nearby woodlands, or, more often than not, it is felled and coppiced from the same very land he lives and works on.
