QUILTING

STYLE & STORIES

Two quilted garments, the first Toast have made. One is a jacket with a removable belt, the second is a coat.

The design ancestry of both lies in an unlikely marriage between, perhaps, Tibetan chuba - the quilted or sheepskin-lined coats worn on the high Tibetan plateau during the way-colder-than-freezing winters - and the hi- tech quilted coats one might see being worn on the wintry streets of Milan or Cortina d’Ampezzo - long, a-line, down-filled nylon shells.

Both our pieces are light and warm, cosy and with a soft silhouette. The outer is in Italian-woven wool/mix flannel in charcoal; the filling is synthetic and not too bulky; the lining - in a nod towards the improvised, delightful, use-whatever- necessity-permits aesthetic of the chuba - is in a cotton gingham woven for us in southern India. The fastenings are large, covered poppers. Each piece has two pockets.
